Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said that the construction of the second stage of the National Museum "Memorial to Holodomor Victims" will begin in February and will take two years, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has reported.

Groysman participated in a meeting of the organizing committee on preparations for the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor, which was also attended by Head of the Presidential Administration Ihor Rainin.

Groysman said at the meeting that the completion of the construction of the Memorial to Holodomor Victims was "a matter of honor," with UAH 320 million envisaged in the state budget for 2018 for this purpose.

He said that additional funds could be attracted from international sources.

"We begin work in February. We must commission the facility within 24 months. I instruct Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Kistion to monitor the project... Now the task is to decide on the effective use of funds," the press service quoted Groysman as saying.

The plan of measures provides for holding major exhibitions and meetings to inform the world about the scale of the tragedy, as well as holding an international forum in November 2018 dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor. The group on preparations for the forum is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko.

Groysman also supported the idea of creating a film about the Holodomor and stressed the importance of honoring the memory of Holodomor researchers, first and foremost, U.S. scientist James Mace.

A report posted on the website of the president says that the meeting participants discussed the construction of a monument to outstanding Holodomor researcher in Ukraine Mace, the resumption of work on the creation of the National Book of Holodomor Victims, and the publication of historical books devoted to the Holodomor genocide of the Ukrainian people.

On November 21, 2017, Groysman stated that the project cost of the construction of the second stage of the Memorial to Holodomor Victims was UAH 700 million, 50% of which will be allocated by the state and the rest by Ukrainian cities and philanthropists.
