Poroshenko says any pressure on NABU inadmissible

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has noted the need for more active participation of the head of state in protecting the country's anti-corruption infrastructure and the inadmissibility of any pressure on the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

"The events of the end of 2017 showed that the anti-corruption infrastructure requires more active protection by the president. I want to emphasize the guarantee of the NABU independence, I consider it unacceptable to put any form of pressure on this agency, nor by the political establishment and nor by the group of support of this agency, which aggressively imposes on it lists of "clients" with politically-motivated 'sentences'," the head of state wrote in a column for the Novoye Vremia newspaper and The Economist World, published on Saturday.

Poroshenko also noted that formation of an anti-corruption court will start in 2018. "The funds for this institution have already been envisaged in the 2018 budget. But it must go through all the stages from adoption of the law to election of the judges," he stressed.
