Court extends arrest of two suspects in Voronenkov's killing

Kyiv's Holosiyivsky District Court, at the request of the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office, has extended the arrest of two persons involved in the killing of former Russian State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov.

"Under a petition from the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office, the capital's Holosiyivsky District Court extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for two men suspected of killing former Russian State Duma deputy Denis Voronenkov in Kyiv on March 23, 2017. According to the court ruling, the detention of the suspects was extended until February 13 2018 inclusive," the press service of the prosecutor's office reported on Wednesday.

The prosecutor's office recalled that a 36-year-old resident of Pavlograd in Dnipropetrovsk region (an accomplice in the murder who acted as a driver), as well as his 39-year-old accomplice, a native of Kherson region who participated in organizing the crime and directly tracked Voronenkov, had been informed about suspicion under paragraph 12, Part 2, Article 115 (premeditated murder committed by preliminary collusion by a group of individuals) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings continues and is at the final stage.

The names of two persons involved are not mentioned in the report.

According to earlier reports, Voronenkov was killed in central Kyiv on March 23. The assassin, Pavlo Parshov, was wounded by the former deputy's security guard and later died at a hospital.

Voronenkov's assassin had an accomplice, Yaroslav Levenets, who has been wanted for economic crimes since 2012. Yaroslav Tarasenko is also a suspect in the crime. He was detained on July 16.

In October 2017, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said that two persons involved in the case – Oleksandr Los and Yaroslav Tarasenko – had been arrested and are in jail; and two more are on the wanted list, particularly Yaroslav Levenets and Yuriy Vasylenko, the leader of a criminal group.

He also said that Voronenkov's murder had been ordered by a criminal boss controlled by the Russian Federal Security Bureau (FSB), Vladimir Tyurin, who is also the former common-law partner of Voronkov's widow Maria Maksakova.
