The U.S. Department of State is closely following the events in Ukraine related to ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, U.S. ambassador to Tbilisi Jan Kelly said.

"First and foremost, I will say that we are closely following this matter, along with the U.S. State Department and my colleague in Ukraine, the ambassador told journalists on Tuesday.

According to him, the main thing in this matter is that a fair legal process should be conducted.

As for the reflection of these events in Georgia, Saakashvili is the former president of Georgia. And it is in our interest to help Georgia move forward, develop and become more successful. We are pleased that Georgia is focused on the future, he said.
