Criminal case opened over blocking of NewsOne channel

The blocking of the NewsOne television channel has currently ended, but law enforcement officers have reported the opening of a criminal case due to obstruction of the work of journalists, according to the channel's official website.

"At the moment we know the organizer, but we establish direct participants by analyzing the video and interrogating the witnesses. A criminal case has been opened. Preliminary qualification is arbitrariness. When all the circumstances are established, the actions will be qualified accordingly – obstructing the work of journalists," deputy head of the Kyiv police investigation department Ruslan Dudarets said.

According to him, the blocking of the TV channel was supervised by representatives of Dmytro Korchynsky's Brotherhood organization.

Vasyl Holovanov, the executive producer of the TV channel, said that the blocking had currently stopped, but the participants of the blockade remain on the ground.

According to earlier reports, a group of unknown individuals blocked the NewsOne channel using sacks containing sand and barbed wire on the evening of December 3, saying they disagreed with the "channel's policies." The radical activists demanded apologies from Yevhen Murayev, an independent deputy and the TV channel's owner, who had called the 2014 Maidan events "a coup."
