Spectekhnoexport sees supplies of grenade launchers to Ukraine as part of strategy of military cooperation with U.S.

The state-owned Spectechnoexport enterprise considers deliveries of 40mm anti-tank precision shoulder-fired rocket launchers (PSRLs) from U.S. company AirTronic as part of the strategy of bilateral military and technical cooperation between Kyiv and Washington, the enterprise's press service reported on November 27.

The purchase of the upgraded U.S. analogue of the Soviet RPG-1 anti-tank grenade launchers in the interests of the country's security agencies was ensured by Spectechnoexport under an agreement signed with the U.S. company in 2016, on the basis of a special export license of the U.S. State Department and in agreement with the Ukrainian authorized state bodies.

"The respective agreement between Spectechnoexport and AirTronic was signed in 2016 and is still in force in 2017. The volume and cost of supplies are not disclosed. The project is being implemented under the export license DDTC DSP-5 of the U.S. Department of State and on the respective approval of the Ukrainian state bodies," reads the report.

While clarifying the details of the project with AirTronic, Spectechnoexport Director Pavlo Barbul reported on his Facebook page: "The products are delivered exclusively to the needs of Ukrainian law enforcement units for use in defensive purposes."

He said that the signing of the agreement on bilateral military and technical cooperation had been ensured in close coordination with the U.S. Department of State and the Pentagon. According to him, the parties "went through a difficult path from negotiations to signing an agreement on deliveries, against the background all the complexities and geopolitical games of different countries."

"I am sure that despite all difficulties and obstacles, we are on the right track," Barbul added.
