Finance minister predicts opening of tax case against him, accusing fiscal service of having lack of professionalism

Kyiv's State Fiscal Service has given a negative response to objections of Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk regarding his tax declarations inspection, which he believes being unlawful.

"This means that in the near term I will receive a tax notice, which is a direct way to the criminal case and a possibility of again attacking me and throwing mud at me for my opponents," he said in a statement made public last week.

"Most of people understand that this case is a dead-end and artificial case. It was planned not to win, but to seriously damage reputation at the stage of accusations and suspicions," Danyliuk said.

He links the campaign against him with the introduction of a transparent VAT refund by the Ministry of Finance, the blocking of the corrupt VAT scams for bonds, the fight against fictitious VAT, the refusal to increase the financing of the prosecutor's office, the reform of the State Fiscal Service, the active position towards the liquidation of the tax police and the creation of the Financial Intelligence Service.

"I will not give up my principles. So I advise law enforcement agencies not to spill energy and finally do the work that everyone expects from you, not spin doctoring," the finance minister said.

With regard to the reply received by the State Fiscal Service of Kyiv, he pointed out that there were no answers to many points of his objections, the refusal to take into account the documents in English, the inability of tax officials to establish the fact of his tax residency and correctly determine the rate of conversion of income to the hryvnia, as well as the decision without confirmation of information from the British Revenue & Customs office where the minister worked.

"But, the most important, according to information from the Kyiv's State Fiscal Service, the decision was imposed from outside, in particular, there was an unlawful interference of the Prosecutor General's Office," the finance minister said.

"Realizing that the stable Ministry of Finance is the guarantee of financial stability of the country, I tried not to take resonant steps in response to coordinated actions aimed at my discrediting, but there is a limit to everything and to my patience too. I will not sacrifice my reputation and calmness of my family," Danyliuk said, explaining the decision to make a statement.
