President signs law granting combatant status to injured Euromaidan protesters

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law on granting the status of "a participant in combat operations" to those who were injured during Euromaidan protests.

"Those who were injured or lost their health on the Maidan barricades are now given the status of a participant in combat operations. Today I signed a respective law that restores justice," Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page.

"This is honor and respect from the state to the courage that was demonstrated during the Revolution of Dignity," Poroshenko said.

He noted that the Kremlin's special operation to disrupt the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union was part of a hybrid war against Ukraine.

"Therefore, the participants in the Revolution of Dignity did the same thing as the soldiers at the front," Poroshenko said.

As reported, on November 14, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted at second reading and as a whole the draft law (No. 5697), which implies that participants in the Revolution of Dignity who were included in the list of persons who sustained various injuries are granted the status of an injured participant in the Revolution of Dignity. Such persons get a respective certificate and are provided with the same privileges and other social guarantees as for participants in combat operations.
