Ukraine sees Putin's visit to Crimea as cynical disregard of international law

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has sent a note of protest to the Russian Foreign Ministry due to Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to the temporarily occupied Crimea.

"The Ukrainian side considers this 'visit,' as well as other trips of Russian officials to the temporarily occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, a flagrant violation by Russia of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the cynical and demonstrative disregard by the Russian side of universally recognized norms of international law... A respective note of protest has been sent to the Russian Foreign Ministry," reads a statement posted on the website of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Monday, November 20.

Ukrainian diplomats said that Crimea and Sevastopol are an integral part of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

"This is recognized throughout the world, which has repeatedly made a respective assessment of the internationally wrongful acts of the Russian Federation by adopting relevant resolutions of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, other international organizations, as well as by imposing broad restrictive measures (sanctions) against the occupier," reads the statement.

As reported, Putin arrived in Crimea on November 18, where he took part in the opening ceremony of the monument to Emperor Alexander III in the park of the Livadia Palace.
