Opposition Bloc urges parliament to back Volker-Surkov talks, give up Donbas reintegration bill

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should support the negotiations on Donbas between U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker and Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and refuse from the adoption of a bill on restoring Ukraine's sovereignty in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the head of the Opposition Bloc faction in parliament, Yuriy Boiko, has said.

"We believe that the parliament should support this important mediation mission and the introduction of peacekeepers as the first stage of achieving security in this region," he said at a meeting of the parliament's conciliatory council of the leaders of factions, committees and groups in Kyiv on Monday.

Boiko also said that the parliament should avoid "contradictory and absolutely uncompetitive laws, like the law on reintegration, which... in fact is a law on the separation of the territory of Ukraine and has nothing to do with restoring the territorial integrity of our state."
