Warsaw positively appraises Kyiv offer on Consultative Committee

The Polish side has positively perceived the initiative of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland. Warsaw is ready to host a Ukrainian delegation to clarify the state of bilateral relations, the Polish Radio reported on Thursday with reference to the office of Polish President Andrzej Duda.

"Krzysztof Szczerski, the Head of the President’s Office, positively perceived the offer of the Ukrainian side on the holding of the meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Poland and Ukraine in the near future. The meeting should help make clear the recent decision and events in the Ukrainian-Polish relations," the message reads.

The Office of the president of Poland passed the administration of the Ukrainian president the information on the readiness of Szczerski, the co-chairman of the Consultative Committee from the Polish side to host the Ukrainian co-chairman with the delegation.

The presidential office noted that it "will be the next possibility to represent the expectations on topical issues of the Ukrainian-Polish relations after the visit of Piotr Glinski, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and Witold Waszczykowski, the Foreign Minister of Poland."

"President Andrzej Duda also looks for the personal steps of President Petro Poroshenko in the context of the current status of the bilateral relations," the office said.

As reported, on November 8, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko initiated a special meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland to prevent further escalation of tension between the two countries

"Recent strong statements by representatives of the Polish authorities addressed to Ukraine and its leadership cause serious concern and cannot be left without proper response. In order to strengthen the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and to avoid further escalation of tension, recognizing the need to resolve any outstanding issues in bilateral relations exclusively in a civilized European way. Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has initiated the holding of an extraordinary meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland," Tseholko wrote on his Facebook page.

The press secretary also recalled the Consultative Committee is an advisory agency designed to facilitate the implementation of agreements between the heads of both states aimed at deepening the friendly relations between Ukraine and Poland. It is headed by the foreign policy advisers of the presidents of the two states.

Poland's President Andrzej Duda said on November 7 he expects that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman will not allow people with anti-Polish views to occupy important public posts. He noted that such people "do not build cooperation between our countries, they are destroying them." Therefore, there should be no such people in Ukraine's big politics, in politics, which has international significance."

Duda noted that there are such people in Ukrainian politics. "It's also necessary to speak loudly that there are people in important positions in Ukraine who have almost openly anti-Polish views, this is unacceptable," the Polish president stressed.
