Kyiv's District Administrative Court has opened the proceedings on a lawsuit filed by leader of the Movement of New Forces party and former Odesa regional governor Mikheil Saakashvili to the office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMS) in Kyiv region, scheduling the hearing for December 12.

According to the court's press service, the plaintiff asks the court to recognize as illegal the inactivity of the SMS office in Kyiv region on the consideration of Saakashvili's statement on recognizing him as a person in need of additional protection, which was submitted to this office on October 26.

In addition, the plaintiff requests that the SMS office in Kyiv region be obliged to consider, in accordance with the requirements of the law of Ukraine on refugees and persons in need of additional or temporary protection, a statement by Saakashvili on recognizing him as a person who needs additional protection (this application was submitted to the SMS office in Lviv region on September 11).

As reported, Saakashvili announced his intention to challenge an order by the office of the State Migration Service in Kyiv region, which refused to consider his documents on recognizing him as a refugee or a person in need of additional protection.
