SBU exposes Vyshgorod deputy mayor, suspected of embezzling budget funds, on drug sales

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have exposed the suspect in the theft of budget funds, deputy mayor of the town of Vyshgorod, Kyiv region, on illegal possession and illegal drug sales.

"The operatives of the special services established that the official, together with the employees of the town council, was involved in the unlawful seizure of budget funds allocated for repair work in the houses of the district center," the press center of the Ukrainian Security Service said on Friday.

Law enforcers documented that in the documents on the work performed in 2016-2017, officials included overstated figures on the amount and cost of repairs carried out. Part of the funds allocated from the budget was transferred to the accounts of fictitious enterprises and was appropriated by criminals.

As part of criminal proceedings opened under Part 5, Article 139 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (appropriation, embezzlement or possession of property by abuse of office), the Security Service of Ukraine, the prosecutor's office and the National Police conducted authorized searches at the place of residence and in the offices of the persons involved in the case.

Law enforcers seized financial and economic documents and electronic media confirming the illegal seizure of public funds. Now experts are determining the amount of damage caused to the town budget.

"The SBU seized cocaine, amphetamine and marijuana in Kyiv's private and rented in Vyshgorod apartments of the deputy mayor. The official's attempts to distribute drugs were previously documented," the SBU said.

As a result, the official was notified of the suspicion under Part 1, Article 307 and Part 2, Article 309 (illegal production, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or their analogues) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is underway.

The SBU did not name the deputy mayor, but Interfax-Ukraine learned that the issue concerned deputy mayor in charge of the activity of executive bodies of the council Trofym Ivanov.
