The Military Prosecutor's Office of the Darnytsky Garrison together with the Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the SBU have detained one of the chiefs of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine when taking a bribe in the amount of $3,000, press secretary of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Larysa Sarhan has reported.

According to her, the colonel demanded and then received from the citizen an undue advantage for agreeing a permit to conduct an environmental and geological survey of the territory of the military unit with the goal of establishing cells for petrochemical contamination and carrying out restoration work by one of the private enterprises.

"At this time, the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Darnytsky Garrison is conducting primary investigative actions, decides whether to notify the official about suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is also conducting searches and dismissals," Sarhan wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

In turn, the SBU press center informed on Wednesday that it is the chief of one of the departments of the Planning Office for Radiation, Chemical, Biological Protection of the Armed Forces.

Currently, he is in custody and dismissed.
