Inquiry opened into wounding policeman near Rada

The National Police of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings in connection with the infliction of a craniocereberal injury to a police officer during a clash with protesters near the parliament building on Tuesday.

"As a result of the conflict, a policeman was injured. He has a closed craniocerebral injury and bruises. He was hospitalized. The investigators opened the case," the National Police spokesman Yaroslav Trakalo told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday night.

He specified that the criminal proceedings were opened under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer).

According to him, as a result of the clash, a total of four people were injured, including the aforementioned policeman. Two more victims received chemical eye burns due to the spraying of tear gas, the third got a head injury. They turned to the doctors, but refused to write statements to the police.

As reported, a rally with the participation of representatives of various political forces and non-governmental organizations, such as the Movement of New Forces, Batkivschyna (Fatherland), Samopomich, Anatoliy Hrytsenko's Civil Position, the Democratic Alliance, Svoboda, and the National Corps, began in front of the Verkhovna Rada's building on Tuesday. Participants in the rally are demanding the abolition of parliamentary immunity, the establishment of an anti-corruption court, and the introduction of a proportional electoral system, among other things.

During the day in the clashes opposite the building of the Verkhovna Rada at least four people were injured - three civilians and a policeman who received a head injury in the intersection of Hrushevskoho and Sadova Streets and was hospitalized unconscious.
