Crimean Tatars to demand ban on activities of Russian organizations in Ukraine - Chubarov

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people is planning soon to demand that the activities of Russian organizations in Ukraine be stopped, its chairman, Bloc of Petro Poroshenko faction deputy Refat Chubarov, has said.

"Next week I will raise a question before my colleagues - what are Rossotrudnichestvo [the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation] and affiliated organizations doing here in Ukraine? Why are the Russian organizations present in our country? Why cannot we simply close them by law or other decisions? This, by the way, is a matter for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Chubarov said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, September 27.

He announced that the Mejlis would announce its new initiatives and would ask the government to support them.

"If we do not find [government support], we will ask for it from politicians. Russia's Rossotrudnichestvo in Ukraine should be closed. Is it really not clear to anyone? Any Russian state structures operating on Ukrainian territory do not have the right for this. Is it not clear?" Chubarov said.
