Some 30,000 evacuated from area hit by fire, exploding ammo in Vinnytsia region

About 30,000 people have been evacuated from the territory of Vinnytsia and Kalynivka districts of Vinnytsia region in connection with a fire in an ammunition depot, one person was injured and hospitalized, the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine reported.

"As of 06:00, 28,300 people were evacuated from Kalynivka district, including 20,000 people evacuated by their own transport, 8,300 people from arranged evacuation points. In addition, 180 patients were evacuated from the Central District Hospital to city hospitals in Vinnytsia," reads a statement posted on the service's website on Wednesday morning.

Rescuers say 1,366 residents of Vinnytsia district were evacuated and placed in Vinnytsia District Hospital (Vinnytsia).

According to preliminary information, one woman was injured. She is in a moderately severe condition in Vinnytsia Central District Hospital.

Fire in four residential buildings was put out.

At around 22:00 on September 26, reports appeared about explosions of ammunition in the Defense Ministry's arms depot near the town of Kalynivka (Vinnytsia region). Residents of Kalynivka and populated areas in a 10-kilometer zone (Pavlivka, Medvedka, Dorozhne, Salnyk, Stryzhavka) were notified. Local residents are being evacuated.
