OHCHR calls on Russia to ensure availability of education in Ukrainian language

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called on Russia to ensure the availability of instruction in the Ukrainian language and the development of the culture of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in Crimea.

"[Russia must] ensure the availability of education in the Ukrainian language," read the recommendations for the Russian authorities in an OHCHR report for the period from February 22, 2014 to September 12, 2017.

The UN called on Russia to enable all ethnic communities in Crimea, including the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians, to maintain and develop their culture, traditions and identity, and to commemorate important events.
