Ex-director of Information Court Systems detained attempting to leave Ukraine – PGO

Police on Saturday detained on the Ukrainian state border the ex-director of the state-owned Information Court Systems concern. A court on Monday will determine pretrial confinement, head of Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office's (PGO) department of special investigations Serhiy Horbatiuk has said.

"They detained the ex director of Information Court Systems, Mr. 'B,' on suspicion of embezzling UAH 6.4 million," Horbatiuk told the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Monday.

The PGO's press service said the ex-director is suspected of embezzling together with accomplices UAH 6.4 million by making fake contracts for the delivery of software for videoconference systems used in judiciary agencies of Ukraine, intending to transfer the state funds to an offshore company they controlled.

On Saturday, September 23, the suspect was arrested during an attempt to cross the state border with Russia in order to evade criminal responsibility. On the same day he was served with a notice of suspicion pursuant to Part 5 of Article 191 (misuse of public office for personal gain) and Part 1 of Article 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pretrial investigation is now attempting to identify other participants of the criminal group and their role, as well as checking similar deals worth more than UAH 40 million.

The PGO has not given the name of the suspect, but the Kyiv-based e-zine has reported he is Leonid Bohdanov. According to the e-zine, he was arrested at the Konotop train border crossing with Russia in Sumy region.
