Eight or ten more Ukrainian TV channels to appear in Crimea in 2018

Signal of at least eight digital Ukrainian television channels would cover the territory of annexed Crimea in 2018, a member of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting Serhiy Kostinsky has said.

He said on Channel 5 TV late on Tuesday that from September 1, 2017 the TV tower in Chonhar in Kherson region started transmitting signal of five TV channels. Signal reaches northern districts of Crimea. It is planned to complete the tower in Chaplynka, Kherson region.

"The works to extend the Chaplynka tower from 92 meters to 130 meters are being conducted. In 2018, the works will be finished. This allows us to say that an additional eight or 10 Ukraine TV channels will be transmitted from each tower," Kostinsky said.

As reported, on August 17, Kostinsky said that the TV tower in Chonhar started transmitting digital signal in the test mode. Television channels UA: Crimea (National Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine), Chornomorska TV and radio broadcasting company, ICTV, Channel 5 and Tonis are being transmitted to the territory of northern Crimea.
