Polish ambassador to visit Kramatorsk and Avdiyivka, discuss cooperation with Donetsk regional governor

On August 29, Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Pieklo will visit Kramatorsk and Avdiyivka, and will meet with Head of Donetsk Regional Military and Civil Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky.

"During the trip, Ambassador Jan Pieklo will visit new start-ups created with the help of the Polish development program, which include among other things production of equipment for sports and recreation, production of cheese, cafes," the press service of Donetsk Regional State Administration said on Monday.

According to the information released, Poland provided through UNDP almost PLN 3 million (more than $820,000 at the NBU rate as of August 28) in 2015-2016 to support small and medium-size businesses of internally displaced persons. As a result of this part of the project, about 200 immigrants learnt how to write business plans, received money to open about 100 small businesses, resulting in creation of 323 jobs.

In addition, this summer a project was implemented in Aviyivka funded by the small grants program of the Polish Embassy in Ukraine. Windows were replaced at school No. 6 and geography classrooms were provided with the necessary equipment.

"This July, Poland signed an agreement with UNDP, according to which it will allocate an additional PLN 2 million (about $550,000) to continue of the project for 2017-18," the Donetsk Regional State Administration reported.

In September, a project for the creation of two information and integration centers for internally displaced persons and residents of communities in Bakhmut and Avdiyivka will start. The total amount envisaged for the implementation of the project in 2017 is almost PLN 1 million (about $275,000), the report says.
