Ukrainian parliamentary opposition leader calls for involving U.S. in Normandy format talks

The Donbas settlement requires revision of the Minsk Agreements and the development of a road map within the Normandy format negotiations involving also the United States, Opposition Bloc faction leader Yuriy Boiko said on Wednesday.

"A real mechanism is the development of a road map within the Normandy format, the involvement of Americans in this work, and our proposal on sending the Blue Helmets to the contact line in order to stop the shooting," the faction's press service quoted Boiko as saying.

"And, finally, transition to a political settlement process within the framework of the Minsk Agreements and adjustment of these Minsk Agreements, because time has passed, and it's now necessary to change their format and change their essence," Boiko said.

Ukraine should initiate this process, and the reform of the Minsk Agreements should imply the development of a new road map in compliance with the last Normandy format telephone negotiations, he said.

The Normandy format of negotiations on settling the crisis in Donbas includes France, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine.
