U.S. hasn't yet taken steps to supply arms to Ukraine

The U.S. authorities have not yet taken any steps with regard to the possible supply of defensive weapons to Ukraine, Heather Nauert, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, has said.

"The United States has not provided defensive weapons nor have we ruled it out to provide to the Ukrainians," Nauert said at a briefing on Tuesday.

"So there was a BBC report headline. Sometimes the headline writers – you all would know this – will get ahead of the story. So there was a headline that implied that we were in the process of doing what you just described. We are not there yet. Let me take out the word 'yet.' We are not there," she added.

BBC earlier reported Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Ukraine Kurt Volker said that Washington is actively considering the issue of a possible defensive weapons supply to Ukraine.

According to the report, Volker said defensive weapons could help Ukraine protect itself, drive tanks out of Donbas, would help stop Russia, which threatens Ukraine.
