Ceasefire violations continue during 'bread truce' in Donbas, but less intense - Sajdik

The number of instances of shelling in the conflict zone in Donbas has decreased during the 'bread truce', Martin Sajdik, the OSCE's envoy to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on Ukraine, said.

"The number of instances of shelling has decreased owing to the 'bread truce,'" Sajdik told reporters following a TCG meeting in Minsk on Wednesday.

At the same time, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) continues to record ceasefire violations, he said.

"Mostly in the so-called trouble spots, near the populated localities of Mariupol, Svitlodarsk, and in the Avdiyivka-Yasynuvata-Donetsk airport triangle," the OSCE envoy said.

Speaking of the work of the TCG's economic subgroup, Sajdik said that it had taken stock of the issue of payments for water supplies to the Donbas territories outside Kyiv's control. "New payment mechanism is working successfully," he said.

"The humanitarian subgroup continued its work in negotiating the lists of detained persons. [They] were able to agree on several items from these lists," Sajdik said.

The political subgroup continued to discuss the issues related to the Steinmeier formula in the context of the recent meetings in the Normandy format, he said.
