Georgia and Ukraine may rely on each other when the matter concerns external threats, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

A lot of Georgian volunteers came to Ukraine in 2014 to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Poroshenko said at a joint press conference with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in Tbilisi.

"By defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, these warriors are defending Georgia's sovereignty and integrity. They are reinforcing strategic partnership between our countries," Poroshenko said.

Strategic partnership between Georgia and Ukraine is based on the same threats and challenges, he said.

"I was really delighted to see Georgian servicemen along with Americans, Britons, and Ukrainians at exercises under NATO's aegis near Odesa yesterday. We should strengthen this partnership, and there are a lot of ideas as to how to improve the combat capability of our Armed Forces through holding joint exercises," Poroshenko said.

Georgia and Ukraine should act together in all international arenas, he said.

"We agreed how to make Georgia's chairmanship of GUAM [Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Moldova] more efficient. We agreed on expanding the scope of free trade," Poroshenko said.
