Ukraine to open criminal inquiry over coup following Yanukovych's lawsuit

A criminal inquiry will be opened and a decision substantiated by the law will be made following a lawsuit filed by former President of the country Viktor Yanukovych regarding the staging of a coup in Ukraine, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said.

"Of course, we will consider it. According to the current legislation we will register criminal proceedings regarding a coup, submit it to the relevant Prosecutor General's Office department, study it and will make a decision substantiated by the law. What is more, I will do everything such that this takes place without my control," he told journalists on Thursday.

As soon as he comes to his office, he will issue an order to first deputy Dmytro Storozhuk, who is not on the list of persons named by Yanukovych, "to undertake all necessary actions to register this case and for further investigation," he said.

As reported, former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych filed a lawsuit with the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office regarding a coup perpetrated in the country in 2014.
