Radiation situation in Chornobyl zone due to fire not changed

In the exclusion zone of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and in the adjacent territories, the deterioration of the radiation situation due to the fire that occurred on Thursday has not been fixed, the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has reported.

"There is no deterioration of the radiation situation in the exclusion zone and in the adjacent territories. The radiation situation is under control," the ministry said on Friday.

According to the Ecology Ministry, taking into account the radiological significance of the fire in the exclusion zone, the control over the radiation situation is strengthened. Data on the equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation and the content of radio nuclides in the air in the area of a fire are analyzed in the operational mode. The equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation in the fire area has not significantly changed, fluctuations in current values are in the limits common to each point.

Currently, a fire continues on an area of about 25 hectares in the Lubianka forestry.

Given that the area of the fire is located near a district with high levels of radioactive contamination, personnel are recommended to use respiratory protection.
