White House to consider issue of providing Ukraine with lethal weapons before year end – Parubiy

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy expects that the administration of the U.S. President Donald Trump will take a decision to provide Ukraine with lethal weapons until the end of this year.

"This issue is under consideration [in the administration of the U.S. president] and I hope that it will be resolved by the end of this year, this autumn. I very much hope that the political decision in the presidential administration [U.S.] will be the same as in the U.S. Congress, and this issue will be resolved for Ukraine," Parubiy said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday, responding to a question about granting Ukraine with the U.S. lethal weapons.

As reported, Parubiy visited the U.S. on June 12-17. He and the U.S. Congress' House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan signed a memorandum on cooperation between the U.S. and Ukrainian parliaments during the visit.

"This document is aimed at strategic partnership and expansion of bilateral interaction between parliaments in the political, economic, humanitarian, cultural and security spheres. It is important that Ukraine is defined in the memorandum as an outpost of protection of Western civilization from Russian aggression," Parubiy wrote on his Facebook page.

On June 19, at a briefing in Kyiv he said: "The main issue that was raised during the visit [to the U.S.] is providing lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine. And I can assure you there are great prospects in resolving this issue."
