Turchynov, NATO assistant secretary general discuss Ukraine's defense sector transition to NATO standards

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and NATO Assistant Secretary General Camille Grand have discussed Russia's aggression against Ukraine and cooperation in the military and technical area.

"The two discussed Russia's hybrid aggression against Ukraine, cooperation with NATO member countries in the defense industry and cyber security, as well as the Ukraine's security and defense sector transition to NATO standards," the NSDC press service reported.

Turchynov noted that Russia's aggression can be stopped only by "powerful weapons and a strong army," and said the resumption of multilateral military and technical cooperation of Ukraine with the Allies is one of the country's top priorities.

For his part, Grand assured that NATO does not neglect the topic of the annexation of Crimea by Russia and events in Ukraine's east. "NATO shows unity as regards Russia's actions, which are extremely dangerous for the world order ... NATO considers Ukraine to be one of the most important partners and is very optimistic about the prospects for our cooperation," he said.
