Verkhovna Rada passes law on Energy Efficiency Fund

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at second reading and as a whole has passed bill No. 5598 dated December 26, 2016 on the Energy Efficiency Fund.

Some 278 people's deputies supported the appropriate decision at a plenary session on June 8.

The head of the subcommittee on energy saving and energy efficiency of the parliamentary fuel and energy committee, Oleksiy Riabchin, noted 315 proposals to the text of the draft law adopted at first reading were received from the deputies, of which 228 were taken into account and 87 were rejected.

"This bill will give us an opportunity to attract EUR120 million – and this is more than UAH 3 billion - of irrevocable aid from the European Commission and the German government. This is also an additional source for filling the budget, because the fund will work "on the record," and contractors involved in the work on thermal modernization of housing will pay taxes to the budget. This is an impetus for the development of small and medium-sized businesses, new jobs, increased opportunities for creating and financing the activities of multi-apartment building co-owners associations, reducing energy consumption in the country, and the main thing – reducing housing and utilities services bills of Ukrainians," the expert said.
