U.S. ambassador calls on conducting transparent audit of NABU, effective investigation into fiscal service head case, e-declarations of officials

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch has called on conducting an independent and transparent audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), investigate the case of Head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov using best practices and conduct the investigation against those officials who declared too high income.

"It is important that the government guarantees transparent audit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine," she said speaking at the Dragon Capital Ukraine Investor Conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

Yovanovitch said that the United States monitors the case of Nasirov who was suspended from the post. She said that it is important that the investigation into the case and the court hearing were in line with best practices.

She said that she is waiting that the Verkhovna Rada will create the specialized anti-corruption court, allow the NABU to wiretap for the investigation of their cases. The diplomat said that investigations into e-declarations of those officials who declared large funds incomparable with their salaries should be conducted.

Yovanovitch pointed out the importance of carrying out successful privatization of state-run enterprises in Ukraine. This will give a signal to investors and a driver for Ukraine's development. It is important to have good corporate management for those companies that cannot be privatized, she said. Ukraine should approve the rules for the land market that would allow selling and buying land.

The U.S. ambassador is confident that the best protection of Ukraine from external aggression is to continue reforms and show to the whole world that Ukraine is committed to the European values.
