Nasirov case demonstrates independent, effective anti-corruption infrastructure in Ukraine, Poroshenko tells ICRC head Maurer

Independent anti-corruption infrastructure has been established in Ukraine, as it has been proven by the detention of State Fiscal Service chief Roman Nasirov on suspicion, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said while meeting with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer.

Poroshenko recalled that the criminal proceedings began last week and Nasirov, a high-ranking official, was notified of suspicion, the president's press service said on Monday.

"I think this is a shining example: firstly, effective anti-corruption infrastructure has been established in Ukraine, and secondly, it serves as concrete proof that the anti-corruption agency is completely independent," the president said.

It demonstrates the effectiveness of reforms in Ukraine, in particular, in the fight against corruption, Poroshenko said.

"As of today, a high-ranking official is notified of suspicion without informing the president. I think this is exactly what we sought while creating an independent agency," he added.
