SBU detains Ukrainian colonel on suspicion of cooperating with Russian special services

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), having detained Ukrainian Armed Forces Col. Ivan Bezyazykov on suspicion of cooperating with Russian special services, brought the relevant charges against him and will choose a restraining measure for him on Tuesday.

"Colonel Bezyazykov was earlier in captivity. The SBU has collected evidence that this man cooperated with Russian special services," deputy chief of the SBU Main Investigative Department Vitaliy Mayakov said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Bezyazykov has been officially charged, SBU executive office chief Oleksandr Tkachuk said.

Bezyazykov is a regular officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He had headed the intelligence unit of the former eighth army corps, which was disbanded in March 2015.

Bezyazykov was freed from captivity in Donbas on July 5, 2016. He had been taken captive in August 2014.
