First recording allegedly made by MP Onyschenko released

The first audio snippet of a recording Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksandr Onyschenko claimed to have made, has been published to the Internet by the Strana.ua news portal.

Onyschenko earlier said he possessed recordings of conversations with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his inner circle, which, according to the MP, proved corruption among top Ukrainian politicians.

The snippet released contains a conversation purportedly between Onyschenko and People's' Will Faction MP Oles Dovhy. The men reportedly discuss schemes to mitigate problems between Onyschenko and Ukrainian authorities.

Participants in the conversation agree on a solution and agree on working on a more detailed plan, which is not explained. The voice of the man purported to by Onyschenko several times raises the issue of guarantees and says he is worried his accomplice will be in jail for too long a period.

As earlier reported, in the beginning of December Ukrainian MP Onyschenko, who is wanted in Ukraine and abroad, accused the Presidential Administration headed by Poroshenko of "buying" the votes of several MPs in parliament.

Media have reported that Onyschenko recorded his conversations with Poroshenko using a device concealed in his wrist watch.

"You will hear the voice of the guarantor [of Ukraine's Constitution], in order to dispel all your illusions [about his] love for the government, Ukraine and its people … I hung around him for two years and know him well," Onyschenko was quoted as saying.

Onyschenko said that on November 29 he turned over copies of the recordings to U.S. secret service agents.

"They came to me in Europe," Onyschenko said, showing a letter from U.S. Justice Department officials.

Head of the Ukrainian Secret Service's (SBU) main investigative bureau Hryhoriy Ostafiychuk has announced a pretrial investigation of state treason by Onyschenko.

On December 6 the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine said it is checking information appearing in the foreign press about Onyschenko, an MP from the People's Will faction, involving alleged attempts to buy votes in parliament, but has not entered the case in the unified database of pretrial investigations.
