Ukraine is ready not only to deal with the probable scenario of the "Crimean corridor," but also for much more wide-ranging actions by separatists supported by Russia in our country, Chief of General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Army General Viktor Muzhenko has said.

"We are planning for the possible escalation of the conflict in the south-east of Ukraine to a large-scale aggression against Ukraine. The corresponding countermeasures are being developed for these scenarios. These troops are being brought up to strength for it. And, as of today, we are able to resist the Russian Federation. We are preparing for scenarios, which we believe may become real," he said in an interview with BNS agency in Vilnius.

Chief of the General Staff thanked Lithuania for its support in the supply of the so-called lethal weapons and military advice on the establishment of special operations forces of Ukraine, as well as possible government contracts for the repair of existing weapons systems of Lithuania in Ukraine.

Muzhenko said that he does not have any information on whether the future U.S. administration of Donald Trump is going to change the course and abandon planned U.S. support for Ukraine. He recalled that the U.S. allocates funds for the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to conform to NATO standards. This financial support is estimated at about $500 million.

"At least, according to our sources, no changes are envisaged. Assistance issues, including aid to counselors, and the issue of training of our military by the U.S. instructors, respectively, in particular, financial assistance, the decision of which had already been taken - all this is still in force. And we have no other signals for today," he said.
