Poroshenko hails UN decision recognizing Russia as 'occupying authority'

During a meeting with ambassadors of G7 countries, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called a great victory the adoption by the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly a resolution "The human rights situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol (Ukraine)," initiated by Ukraine.

"There was an extraordinary event in New York yesterday - the Resolution was adopted, which passed with great support of 73 votes at the Third Committee. It is a sign of support for Ukraine's initiative, the initiative of the majority of countries," the press-service of the president of Ukraine quoted Poroshenko as saying on Wednesday.

Ukrainian president said, "It is very important that this resolution clearly reflects the recognition of the Russian Federation as an occupying authority in Crimea."

"It was clearly indicated at the international level for the first time. It also stated that Crimea and Sevastopol remain the territory of Ukraine and have the status of the temporarily occupied territories," the president said.
