U.S. expects Ukraine to investigate suspicious facts in e-declarations of MPs, officials

The United States Ambassador in Kyiv Marie Yovanovitch pointed out the need to expand the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and hasten the creation of the anti-corruption court in the country.

"A wave of global outcry over corruption shows the need to keep and expand the NABU's powers related to investigations and create the anti-corruption court as soon as possible. We are ready to support the efforts of the Ukrainian government in fight against corruption and understand that the system of e-declarations is a beginning, not a conclusion, of a process of identifying and ceasing corrupt practices," Yovanovitch said in an interview with the ZN.UA media, which was published on Saturday.

She said she believes that the Ukrainian people and government should determine the prospects of holding the corrupt officials responsible.

The ambassador also said that the U.S. expects the Ukrainian law enforcement officials will investigate suspicious facts disclosed in e-declarations.

"The e-declarations system serves its purpose, to increase the transparency level among senior officials. We hope that the Ukrainian law enforcement agencies will early detect and investigate suspicious corruption cases," Yovanovitch said.
