Ukraine reports one KIA, six WIA's in past day

One Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action (KIA) in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone, another six were wounded in action (WIA) in the past 24 hours, Ukrainian Defense Ministry speaker for ATO issues Andriy Lysenko has said.

"In the past 24 hours, one of our soldiers was killed, six were wounded," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

According to Lysenko, the situation in the Luhansk sector was relatively calm: there were only three attacks on the Ukrainian positions, and all were mounted with the use of small arms.

In the Donetsk sector, under fire were Ukrainian positions near the town of Avdiyivka, Butivka coal mine and the village of Opyne.

"Militants tried to conceal their real intentions - to oust the ATO forces from the held positions in Avdiyivka. The command of the Russian occupation forces engaged several hundred fighters for this operation, along with several artillery batteries and a UAV. Having mounted an artillery attack with the use of 82mm mortars and 152mm guns, the occupiers attempted to take our positions by storm. Reinforce troops arrived at the forefront of our defense to counter the assault. The fight ended in our favor," Lysenko said.

Militants continued shelling ATO positions, using heavy weapons, they lobbed over 300 projectiles.

Lysenko also said that militants' heavy weapons also hit residential areas in the occupied town of Makiyivka.

"Fire was launched from the enemy's positions deployed near the villages of Mineralne and Yakovlivka, and the town of Yasynuvate," he said.

In total, 16 barrages were recorded in the Donetsk sector in the past 24 hours. Fourteen of these attacks were mounted with the use of heavy weapons.

The situation in the Mariupol sector also remains tense. Most of the militant attacks there focused on the town of Maryinka and the village of Shyrokyne, which is close the Ukrainian-controlled strategic port city of Mariupol. The adversary continues using heavy weapons, mortars remain most popular. Over 200 mortars were fired on Ukrainian troops on Thursday alone. Enemy cannon artillery systems, infantry fighting vehicles and snipers are engaged. Thirty-four attacks were reported in the Mariupol sector in the last day; half of them used heavy weapons.
