Red Cross representatives have no access to captives in Donbas - Poroshenko

Representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission were again denied access to the captives despite the agreements reached at Normandy Four talks in Berlin, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"Today, we received an official denial of a visit by representatives from the humanitarian mission - the International Red Cross organization. They were again denied access to our hostages," Porosohenko said while receiving the credentials from Poland's Ambassador to Ukraine Jan Pieklo in Kyiv on Wednesday, the Ukrainian president's press office said.

The president pointed out to the ambassador that "Russia, despite the agreements reached in Berlin at the Normandy-format meeting, is not allowing ICRC representatives access the Ukrainian hostages," the press office said.

"It is categorically unacceptable when agreements do not get implemented," Poroshenko said.

Earlier on Wednesday, ICRC spokesperson Sanela Bajrambasic in Kyiv said that the Red Cross representatives have no proper access to the areas where people are being held captive in the breakaway parts of the Donbas region.
