Dutch government expected to table by Nov 1 proposals on ratification of EU Association Agreement with Ukraine

The Netherlands is expected to table by November 1, 2016, its proposals for the ratification of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev has said.

"The situation is uneasy, but not hopeless. After the meeting of the Council of the European Union in Brussels on October 20-21, the situation has improved to the extent that the EU leaders called on the Prime Minister of the Netherlands to intensify work and submit proposals, if possible, before November 1, as for ratification of the Association Agreement," Yeliseyev said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the EU leaders proceed from the fact that it will be a disaster both for Ukraine and the EU if this important document has not been ratified.

"Therefore, the EU leadership has motivated the Dutch government to submit the proposals," he said.

In addition, a Ukrainian delegation led by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin will go to The Hague soon, as was instructed by President Petro Poroshenko, to hold consultations with the Dutch Parliament and try to reach a compromise for the ratification of the Agreement, Yeliseyev said.
