As reported, on August 7, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced that Medianyk was arrested in the same case involving former lawmaker of the Party of Regions Oleksandr Yevfremov. Medianyk was suspected of taking premeditated actions with the aim of changing the borders of the territory of Ukraine, which violate the Constitution, which says individuals responsible for the death of people and other heinous crimes pursuant to Article 3, Paragraph 100 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, as well as helping create and oversee the activities of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic, an offense punishable under Part 1, Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code.

On August 8, a court ruled to remand Medianyk in custody for 60 days, until October 4, 2016. The court denied the suspect an alternative in the form of a bail.

The prosecutor general said that Medianyk worked as a mediator between the so-called LPR and the Ukrainian side.

On October 22, Lutsenko said Medianyk will be released soon, because the PGO had no evidence of his guilt.
