Parliament calls on warring parties in Syria cease active hostilities, respect international law

The Verkhovna Rada urges the parties of the armed conflict in Syria to cease active hostilities throughout its territory, and comply with international law, human rights and international humanitarian law.

Some 241 MPs voted for the decision No.5214 on the Verkhovna Rada’s appeal to international organizations, parliaments of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) participating states and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the latest developments in Syria.

The Verkhovna Rada called on "all involved parties to facilitate the creation of the necessary preconditions for the restoration of the political process for the settlement aimed at the establishment of an inclusive transitional government in Syria with further adoption of the Constitution and holding of elections in accordance with the Geneva Communiqué dated 2012 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015)."
