Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio have discussed the course of implementation of changes to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of justice, which entered into force on September 30, 2016.

According to the presidential press service, during the meeting Poroshenko noted the important role of the Venice Commission in preparations for the justice system reform.

The Ukrainian head of state thanked Buquicchio for the principled position of the Venice Commission regarding the legal analysis of events related to Russia's aggression against Ukraine, in particular, the Venice Commission's conclusions as for the unconstitutionality of the referendum in Crimea, as well as the non-compliance with international law of the changes Russia put to the procedure of accepting new subjects to the federation.

Buquicchio, in turn, confirmed the commission's willingness to continue assistance in the reform of the judicial system in Ukraine.
