Rada committee seeking ban on MPs leaving Ukraine if PGO seeks to strip them of immunity

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada committee on foreign affairs has supported a draft measure on introducing changes to several laws on the procedure for MPs leaving Ukraine (No. 5038), Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction deputy Vadym Denysenko has said.

"The committee on foreign affairs has supported the draft law that makes it impossible for MPs to flee Ukraine if the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has submitted a petition [to lift his or her immunity from prosecution]. MPs in this case will not be allowed to leave Ukraine until the petition is floored in the Rada," Denysenko said on Facebook.

Denysenko said deputies from the Opposition Bloc faction, Oleh Liashko's Radical Party faction and a representative of the Batkivschyna faction did not support the measure.

"Thanks to all who helped draft this law and who supported it. It is now necessary to schedule debate on the bill during this session of parliament," Denysenko said.
