PM: We can hold election in merged communities on Dec 11

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers jointly with the Central Election Commission (CEC) has found a decision how to hold election in merged territorial communities on December 11, 2016, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has said.

"I think that on December 11 we will be able to hold election in the merged communities," he said at Lviv regional state-run television and radio broadcasting company on Friday.

The information and pubic communications department of the secretariat of the Cabinet reported that Groysman said that holding the election in the merged communities is to be settled by Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Economy Ministry jointly with the CEC.

"They failed to settle it without my interference. I have interfered. We jointly with the CEC have found the solution. We would make the decision on Monday," he said.

He recalled that he was one of the authors of the law on voluntarily merger of communities. He said that budgets of merged communities have expanded by two, five and seven times.

On September 23, the CEC called the first election in rural and town councils in 41 merged territorial communities for December 11. On September 8, the government provided UAH 10.46 million for the election to the CEC.
