Ukraine ready to ensure 'regime of quiet' in Donbas from Sept 1

Ukraine is ready to ensure ceasefire in Donbas from September 1, Lt. Gen. Ruslan Khomchak, the Center task force commander and head of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, said.

"We are ready for the 'regime of quiet'. But we do not trust premonitions, we trust reliable information and follow orders," he told reporters in Maryinka on Monday.

The situation in the ATO zone is currently "tense and complex," he said. "We are now in Maryinka, which is getting shelled every day [...]. The enemy uses artillery systems and tanks against our units. We are verifying the information that BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launchers were used this morning," he said.

Following the negotiations in Minsk on August 26, the Contact Group on Ukraine said it is necessary to put in place an indefinite ceasefire in Donbas due to the beginning of a new school year starting at midnight on August 31.
