U.S. State Department not comment sabotage attempt in Crimea

The U.S. State Department has seen reports of the detained "Ukrainian saboteurs" in Crimea who were “preparing a terrorist attack, but they are not ready to make comments on the matter, U.S. State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said on Wednesday.

“So we’ve seen the reports. We’re going to refer you to the Government of Ukraine for further information,” Trudeau said at a briefing.

The State Department representative said that the department is directly in touch with Ukrainian counterparts on this matter.

“We don’t want to be distracted from the real issue here, which is not only Russia’s occupation and attempted annexation of Crimea, but their continued aggression in eastern Ukraine,” the spokesperson noted.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Russian Federation's Federal Security Service (FSS) announced that they prevented "attempts of breaking by Ukrainian sabotage and terrorist groups into the territory of Crimea" on August 7 and on August 8.
