Donbas has 107 Ukrainian hostages kept in captivity - Gerashchenko

The representatives of separate territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions keep 107 Ukrainian citizens in captivity, Ukraine's representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the trilateral contact group, the president's envoy for Donbas settlement Iryna Gerashchenko has said.

"Now 107 people remain hostages on separate territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including 64 military men along with other civilians. At the latest Minsk meeting I managed to confirm the presence of 45 people from this list on the uncontrolled by Ukraine territory, but not 20, as the militants claimed before,” Gerashchenko wrote on her Facebook page on Monday.

She also noted that there are 10 political prisoners in Russian jails and the Ukrainian side keeps working on their release.

"We are working to bring good news for all relatives of the hostages and relatives of missing persons. Currently there are 498 people gone missing, of whom 345 people are civilians. This is a very complicated process. We are constantly informing relatives, including at our personal meetings, about the details of the talks," Gerashchenko said.

According to the Ukrainian parliament vice-speaker, the parliament must pass a law "on payments to the families of hostages " to help the families of hostages.
