SBU notes active cooperation with UN Monitoring Group, publicity of work

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has noted active cooperation with the UN Monitoring Group and assures of the publicity of its work with regard to admission of international observers to the places of detention or imprisonment in Donbas.

"We have not once said we cooperate with the UN mission and make every effort to ensure publicity in this issue," adviser to the SBU head Yuriy Tandyt told Interfax-Ukraine, commenting on the report, made public by the human rights organizations Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, indicating human rights violations in Donbas both on the part of separatists and Ukrainian forces.

In late May 2016 SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak stated the Security Service of Ukraine does not prohibit international observers from visiting detention centers.

"I personally signed the document that allows attending pre-trial detention centers," he said.
