Ukraine, Canada will sign agreement on cooperation in security soon

Ukraine and Canada will soon sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of security, Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Andriy Shevchenko has stated.

"We hope in the next few months we will sign a security cooperation agreement. This is an agreement on cooperation between the defense ministries of Ukraine and Canada. Work on the text has been actually completed, we are at the finish line, the text is ready to be signed," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the ambassador, this is a framework document to be filled with concrete areas of cooperation.

"Also, our officers are trained at Canadian military colleges, which is very important because they learn to think together with Canadians, with their NATO partners in the same way. We hope we will work with Canadian military men in the Black Sea, because a very ambitious program for the Black Sea was planned at the NATO summit," he added.

Asked whether Canadian political circles discuss the issue of providing Ukraine with lethal weapons, Shevchenko said "I have no news on the issue."
